![]() PilatesDeveloped by Joseph Pilates at the beginning of the 20th Century, Pilates is a form of exercise centred around the control of the core muscles. Working on the basis of training the body from the inside out, a Pilates class will focus on assuming and maintaining the correct posture, engaging the deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles and using breathing, concentration, flowing movements and co-ordination to gradually build up strength and flexibility. Pilates is practised by lay people and elite athletes alike to improve posture, increase and maintain joint mobility, improve flexibility, increase strength, relieve stress and tension, avoid and treat back pain and help tone the whole body. It is an effective and sustainable form of exercise. Nature and Type of ClassesPilates is best learned from scratch and built up over a period of time and for that reason Daire runs courses rather than drop-in classes. Pilates requires hands-on correction and a considerable amount of individual attention from the instructor which is why Daire limits the numbers in any one class to 12. Most of Daire's classes are suitable for anyone over 16 who is new to exercise and/or Pilates or has less than two years' experience. Classes Currently Booking/RunningSHIRAZ MIRZA HALL, Coombe Rd.
